Claudio Climaco, Contra-Mestre Caracol, began Capoeira at an early age with his father, Mestre Coração, a former student ‘Formado’ of the great Master Bimba in Goiania – Brasil and founder of Capoeira in Queensland Australia.
In his youth, Caracol trained in group Candeias with Mestre Secao before moving to Australia to live with his father. In 1998, Mestre Coração handed his group to the care of Master Luizinho Barravento who began mentoring Caracol to become a teacher and contra-mestre. Every year Caracol travels to Brazil attending Capoeira festivals, updating his skills and establishing a cultural exchange between the two countries.
In 2002 Caracol was ranked top 10 in the world championships from group Muzenza in Curitiba – Brasil. CM Caracol runs his full time Capoeira studio in Brisbane’s West End as well as running classes, workshops and demonstrations for the wider community in Brisbane, interstate and overseas.
